Background Of Forest Industries Training Institute.

FITI  is a government institution that reports to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism. FITI was founded in November 1976 with financial backing from the Swedish government. Initially, the institute’s ultimate goal was to teach middle-caudal employees for the state-owned wood business known as Tanzania Wood Industries Corporation (TWICO).

After the Swedish financing scheme ended in 1980, FITI was able to acquire money from the Finnish International Development Agency (FINNIDA) for the years 1980 to 1988. FITI has been managed by the Tanzanian government since 1988, with the main goal of providing specialized forestry technical training and services in the wood sector. The National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training has registered and fully recognized FITI (NACTVET). Many changes have occurred in terms of the sorts of programs offered and the number of students admitted since its beginning.
